First of all, it wasn't this bad when I was using 8MB flash rom a couple of years ago. I've purchased 16MB Flash Kit from Vital Tech on ZZounds.com, a few days ago. When I was trying to load up a sample to Flash Memory, it said 'Flash memory erasing...' and froze(or maybe doing something forever). I turned off Ex5, re-initialized, and then tried it again. Same thing happened. Then I loaded up a sample to DRAM, and then tried to copy that sample to Flash Memory, it said 'Executing'.. and it's STILL EXECUTING. (been doing that for more than 5 hours) Please help. Am I missing something, or could it be a bad flash kit?[ September 20, 2002: Message edited by: ck ] [ September 20, 2002: Message edited by: ck ]

I'm unaware of any "copy WAVE to Flash" related OS issues, but I wouldn't rule it out. If you have anything older than OS 1.0c, UPGRADE!Sounds like you may have a bad Flash kit, though. Why don't you re-initialize your EX5 again (hold the exit button upon power up). Then get back to basics - try to load a relatively small .S1M (WAVE) file into Flash (maybe something like the "Armenian Duduk" .S1M). If that works, then power off/on, load the .S1M into *DRAM*, and try copying a WAVE (*NOT* an individual SAMPLE) from DRAM to Flash. If that works, THEN try copying an individual Sample from DRAM to Flash. If all that works, you're fine. If it doesn't work, I'd open up your EX and ensure that the Flash SIMMS are aligned and seated properly. Your problems aside, I HIGHLY recommend that you don't bother with copying WAVES and/or Samples to or from Flash. Flash memory is SLOW, and the Flash memory management in the EX5 is rather poor, especially when you start deleting Samples from Flash. BY FAR the best way to work is to master your new creations in DRAM, then save your work to disk as an .S1M file (you want a backup anyway, right?!), THEN load the .S1M into Flash. You'll find that your work goes MUCH faster in DRAM, and that loading entire .S1M files into Flash is much simpler. ____________________ Ski www.ex5tech.com

hey ck. Havenīt you received any kind of advises from your EXīs display? Several months ago I had a problem īn I couldnīt know what was wrong. The Yamaha technician found that it was only a false contact, but the behaviour of my ex5r was very unstable before fixing. After that, no more problems...no one.____________________ Renato _ _ __ _ _ Still trying to learn something new everyday.

Hi ck, if your flash is showing up as NG/None it is either bad or not seated correctly. It's always worth removing and reseating as it can be a bit tricky to get them seated properly especially with tight SIMMS.[ September 22, 2002: Message edited by: Jim ] ____________________ Jim Microsoft browsers are a bit better but still rubbish and leaky, don't tolerate them.
