I'm presently debating between buying a Mono Evolver Keyboard and a Moog Little Phatty. I've already got two Prophet 08's, and think they're fabulous musical instruments. However, they also provide me with more than enough of the erratic encoder syndrome, with the digits jumping all over the place at even a slight turn of the knob. This only happens on one or two controls, but I'd rather not have to deal with any more of it.

So, level with me, guys. How bad is the encoder problem on the MEK? I've read a few bad reviews, due to this problem. I'd also be happy to receive your general comments on the Moog synthesizer versus the DSI.

Finally, the MEK obviously is small, lightweight, and therefore very portable. But is it roadworthy? Provided it's put in a proper case, does it hold up well to being moved around quite a bit?

I'm curious, if you already have 2, why obtain a third? Of course more Dave Smith items in your home is obviously a good thing, but I don't see how another MEK will add much. In any case, my MEK does have the potentiometer jump issue, but it's not that bad. I can live with it just fine.

As for road worthyness, she doesn't get out much, but she's solid. If you are going on the road with a DSI, why not get a rack mount?

I need a certain number of instruments to play classical type pieces live, without any multi-tracking or dubbing. I also want to record this music live at home, so I need to have one more synthesizer for tone changes. A simple program change during the performance won't do.

I'm quite pleased with the DSI instruments, and have become familiar with their sound, capabilities, and arrangement of controls. So, why look elsewhere when I've already found what I need? I prefer the one piece keyboard and controls type instrument, rather than the module/rack with midi controller. So, I've been debating between the MEK and the LP.
